Ultramel Royal Python- Python regius

Surely the Caramel Albino is on every Royal Python enthusiasts 'wish list'. They look unreal in the flesh . Caramels represent the tyrosinase-positive (T+) form of albinism in Royal Pythons.  They are also sometimes known as Xanthic Albino.

They have ruby red eyes with yellow and lavender undertones.

But there is a problem with Caramels - namely spinal ''kinking''.  Producing a Caramel from a Caramel x Caramel breeding can lead to this genetic disorder.  (not so if you produce Caramels from a het to het breeding)

This has held the Caramel back somewhat in its inclusion into new mutations.

So bring on the Ultramel - A simple recessive trait but with non of the risk associated with caramels and their enhanced colouration with burgundy undertones makes them visually stunning.

They were originally thought to be exceptional Caramels but it is has since been proven that they are incompatible with Caramels.

My visual Ultramels are incredible looking and truly the best I have ever seen and visitors to my collection always stop and stare when they arrive at the Ultramel vivs - consistent with my philosophy that if you are going to invest a lot of money in a mutation then make sure they are the absolute best that are available anywhere.  The genetics of this mutation are simple recessive and therefore they hold their value extremely well - as do all simple recessive traits and combos involving simple recessive genetics .

I expect Ultramels in late 2010 and some exciting combo's involving them in 2011 but my waiting list is already full for these.

There are many possibilities with this mutation and I expect an explosion of Ultramel combos over the next couple of years

Its a ''must have'' mutation
